Brewvet 2013 Summary

Brewvet Season 2013 has come and gone. Much like Coffeeneuring and 30 Days of Biking, this has been a terrific motivator to get on my bike, explore my local area, and explore the local beer scene.

Big thanks to Drink Craft Beer for organizing this virtual event!

Here's a summary of my Brewvet rides:

Ride #1:
Location: Swannie's at Pioneer Square in downtown Seattle, WA
Beer: Blue Moon Belgian
Category: #5, "Spring Classic"
Date: 06/05/2013
Time: 18:00
Miles: 50.8
Thoughts: I'm not a big fan of Belgian-style beer, but I was pleasantly surprised by the Blue Moon. It had a refreshing citrus taste which nicely balanced the typical Belgian "yeastiness".

Ride #2:
Location: Black Raven Brewing Taproom in Redmond, WA
Beer: Black Raven Tamerlane Brown Porter
Category: #7, "Porteur Ride"
Date: 06/07/2013
Time: 17:45
Miles: 13.0
Thoughts: This is one of my favorites beer styles. The Tamerlane is dark, nutty, with a touch of coffee flavor, but is surprisingly light for a porter.

Ride #3:
Location: Flying Wheels Summer Century finish line at Marymoor Park in Redmond, WA
Beer: Schooner Exact West Point Pale
Category: #8, "Go Exploring"
Date: 06/08/2013
Time: 14:50
Miles: 118.8
Thoughts: Rather hoppy, with a nice citrus balance, this was an excellent "cool-down" beer after a long, hot century ride.

Ride #4:
Location: 192 Brewing Company in Kenmore, WA
Beer: Trade Route Joker Amber
Category: #1, "Buy Local"
Date: 06/09/2013
Time: 17:10
Miles: 11.1
Thoughts: Smooth and clean with just the right touch of hops, this was a great warm-afternoon-post-bike-ride beer.

Ride #5:
Location: The Red Door in Fremont, Seattle, WA.
Beer: Black Raven Trickster IPA
Category: #3, "Enjoy your Hops"
Date: 06/10/2013
Time: 17:40
Miles: 37.6
Thoughts: I'm not a total "hop head" like many local IPA fans seem to be, but Trickster is one of my favorites. Of course it's hoppy (but not overly so) with a pleasant citrus finish. Yet another great post-bike-ride beer.

Ride #6:
Location: Ooba Tooba's Mexican Grill in Redmond, WA
Beer: Corona Extra
Category: #6, "Macro Ride"
Date: 06/12/2013
Time: 15:40
Miles: 14.3
Thoughts: One of my favorites non-micro beers. It's light, it's refreshing, and it sits well on my stomach during bicycle rides.

Ride #7:
Location: Washington Brewers Festival at Marymoor Park in Redmond, WA
Beer: Skookum Brewery Katspaw Saison
Category: #9, "Tis the Saison"
Date: 06/14/2013
Time: 16:05
Miles: 17.5
Thoughts: I'm not super familiar with the saison style, but I found the Katspaw to be an excellent, refreshing beer.

Ride #8:
Location: Alpenfire Cider Tasting Room in Port Townsend, WA
Cider: Alpenfire Pirate's Plank Bone Dry
Category: #4, "Cider Century"
Date: 06/29/2013
Time: 11:50
Miles: 24.1
Thoughts: True to its name, this is a very dry cider, with allegedly zero residual sugar present. It is quite tasty, and a welcome change from the sickly-sweet ciders typically served in pubs. Highly recommended.

Date: 06/30/2013
Time: 14:26
Miles: 69.6
Thoughts: A little hoppy (but less so than a typical IPA), easy drinking, and very refreshing.
